人机界面是与操控者进行通信的某个单元或者子系统。使用当前的技术，大多数工业自动化系统的人机界面都集成了图形显示子系统，例如：触摸屏等，因为这类系统直观、简单易学。
可编程逻辑控制器（PLC）
一般而言，PLC均为基于微控制器或者处理器的系统，它们所接收的信息来自于分布在工厂内的各种传感器以及系统操作员。根据这两种信息源所提供的信息，PLC发起动作来控制生产线的过程。
马达驱动器
马达驱动器是对PLC指令做出实际响应的一些机器零件。例如，在汽车组装工厂，传感器向PLC提供汽车车身位置的相关信息。PLC便会对这种信息做出响应，向马达控制单元发出指令，让其控制机械臂对汽车进行点焊。
